Much has been written about the need to “humanize” companies to truly achieve employee engagement and loyalty during the turbulent changes we are experiencing in business today.

Jacob Morgan has written an excellent book called The Future Leader, which is based on interviews with over 140 CEOs and a survey of nearly 14,000 employees (via LinkedIn). In the book, Morgan describes the key challenges facing CEOs in two categories… a need to “Futurize” the business and a need to “Humanize” the business.

One of the ways to humanize the business is to really understand the goals, dreams and aspirations of its employees, and to fully understand and respect their life histories… their “backstories” to use a movie term.
